It was great to read your STAR letter about a mum who was desperate to get back in the saddle as quick as poss after giving birth.
My advice after going through it twice is however long you decide to stop riding for during and after pregnancy it is better for your horse if you can find someone suitable to hack out and ‘keep him ticking over’ for you whilst you are out of the saddle. As far as returning to riding is concerned I think this is down to personal choice, I knew a riding instructor who got back on board after three days! However I personally left it for five weeks after my first child and six weeks after my second. It goes without saying that the fitter you keep during your pregnancy the easier it is to fall back into riding again afterwards. Walking regularly and generally looking after your horse in the interim months ought to be enough. Natasha Cambridge
